Hello Brothers and Sisters,

I am an owner of a Sunfire 2001. I got the 2 coils replaced due to misfire but after it was fixed, a loud "Thud" is heared and felt everytime the transmission shifts gear. Usually felt on first gear change (Lower speed) and Engine & TC alarm stayed lit.

Before the coil change it was smoothly shifting but now I'm getting a more stable idling but annoying "Thud" sound. Mechanic said to just leave it since the computer is trying to adjust. Can anyone please advise if it was related to that Coil change so that I know that it is a back job.

any help and advise are greatly appreciated.

check what code the computer is throwing when the check engine light comes on. You also may have a broken/worn engine/transmission mount

Thanks for responding melsg5

I have an update that would eliminate of any mechanical issues. One time I removed the negative battery terminal overnight and cleared the alarm. I noticed that rough sound is not there anymore but after driving it for 3 Km the alarm came back as well as the rough sound on transmission.

Well that was one temporary solution and i am planning to have it scanned and reset properly using the hand held scanner, is there any difference between reset from battery and reset from handheld ?

Still does not make any sense to me why a TC off alarm & engine alarm would affect the transmission shifting. I guess computers are sometimes getting crazy too just like humans.
