I am having an issue with my 2000 Grand Am GT. The issue is that I can’t get hot air to blow to the vents on the floor and its COLD… I get heat to the vents above (the ones that blows at your face and the defroster), but nothing to the bottom. A few weeks back it sounded like something fell in the dash but didn’t think anything of it.. now I’m thinking that the noise was the air diverter? How should I tackle this or explore to try and figure out and fix my problem. Where should I start? From what I read it sounds like it could be as easy as hooking up an vacuum line or replacing a vacuum switch.
Thx Joe

Sounds like a bad actuator/blend motor. You can get a replacement at Autozone part # 604-107, or you can try to repair it. If you remove the actuator, pry it open carefully, and inside there is a plastic gear that moves the actuator. This gear only uses about 180 degrees of rotation, so if you find a broken tooth on the gear, just remove it, and turn it 180 degrees and put it back together, and it should fix the problem.

okay i'll give that a look see... any suggustion on where this is located or how do i get to the actuator/blend motor... i suppose i would also be okay if it was stuck in mode so that it would only heat the floor. maybe i can rig it?

thx for your help but can you provide me with some guidance to locate the blender/actuator? maybe their is a way i can rig it so it only directs air to the floor rather than the top vents?

It's located on the passenger side of the HVAC unit under the dash below, and to the right of the glove box. Part # 16 in this diagram is what you're looking for.

The actuator looks like this:
