Heat Riser Port

Hi All,

I have superduty heads on my 455 TA. When the intake manifold is fitted with the superduty gaskets the heat riser ports on the heads aren’t completely covered. It’s as if the gasket doesn’t go up and over the heat riser port but straight through the middle of the port ? I’ve seen that people opt to fill the port but is there a correct gasket I can get ? Is the 73 intake manifold the same dimensions as the 73 superduty manifold ? I’m not sure that it’s the standard, superduty or aftermarket manifold. I’ve attached a photo with the circled area.

Any ideas on why the superduty gasket would not cover the heat riser port ?

Still had to operate in colder weather, is my guess...only a street car engine, still had to warm up the intake.

Most people melt an old piston and fill in the port on the intake, cheaper way is stuffing it with aluminum foil and JB Weld.

Or thin sheet metal squares.( Used to be included in intake gasket kits back in the old days.)....

start with letting us know what intake manifold you are using and what intake manifold gasket you are using.
provide both the manufacturer and part number of both.

Yes there was a change over of the size of the heat crossover on the heads & intake manifold during the mid 70's, there are gasket sets that are available for any configuration mix you have, you just need to supply the Intake type, head type (the number on top of the center exhaust ports would help) I used to just cut some thin sheet steel to cover the part that is exposed.
