hi, new to the thread & need a little help w the bosss van n the heat.changed the thermostat &the heat went down hill.cganged the heater core & the same low heat.heat gets warm when you go up hill or into the gas & takes longer to get any heat at all.heard bleeding it through the 2 bleeders in the front of the engine, did it 3 times, aahhh.now rear heater blows cool.so stumped scratching my head.got some air out but aahhh.any help would be so appreciated.

did you test the thermostat before installing it, it may be stuck in the open position?

bleed more, point the van up hill and burp it and caress the hoses to get more/all the air out.

yes I checked thermostat before & what is burping & how to do it thanks

with van running but cold engine no pressure in the cooling system, squeeze the rad hoses to help push out air , due this after the stat opens and you see good flow in the rad . also heard others say to point the van up hill , try to make the rad highest in this process to chase the air out.

My Montana has been like this for the last two winters. If you start it and just drive it around town it stays cool to luke warm at best. If you go on the highway it will blow relatively warm but not hot air. Funny part is that there is more heat(not flow) from the vents and floor than from the defrost setting. My mechanic said its the thermostat but I have not had any real issues with overheating. Further this seems like a common problem and changing the thermostat for others has not solved this issue. This is my winter beater and I cannot justify throwing money at various parts in an attempt to solve the problem. I just bundle up as there is enough heat to keep the windows defrosted. My coolent levels have maintained their level so I don't think I have a gasket issue. I keep hearing about the blend doors but no one ever posts if this fixes their vehicle. I'm sorry I have no mechanical suggestions but please keep the forum up to date as your fix will likely solve others problems.

thanks steel city, will try that.squeeze the hoses with the cap off cold?

yes start with it cold but mainly when the stat opens continue to do it . These things are hard to bleed cause of the rear heat/ac, this seems to help that process.

Diddy,

Were you able to find the problem? Was it air in the system?
