New to this forum, but am on other forums, all Mopars. Sorry. Just recently purchased a nice '84 Fiero. I had one of these before, in the 2M4 variant, and it got T-boned and totalled. This one is replacing my DD, and I just had some questions. It's an automatic, and other than replacing the tranny with a 5-gear version, how else would I be able to improve on my 26-27 mpg that I currently get. I was also curious to know if these have a memory wire for the radio, as the aftermarket one that's installed does not save station sets and restarts the CD when it's in. I think that's all for now. A good bit of the electrical components have been replaced, as well as new bushings in the headlights. Think that's all for now. Thanks in advance!!

there's always ways' to improve fuel economy, doing a cold air intake and opening up the exhaust is always a good way to improve fuel economy and a little power boost to that 95hp. takes you up to maybe 98-100hp but improves F.E. very much. Also remember the basics, inflate your tires to proper PSI, remember not to jack rabbit on take off, use fuel treatment in the car everytime you change the oil. Remember to use the right kind of oil and do those oil changes every 3,000 miles or 3 months, which ever comes first. Get some new plugs and wires and change out the rotor (I prefer AC delco rapid fires matching wires and plugs but I have been recommended to use accel 8.8mm wires and this gives you two sets of them. believe it or not good brakes will be a factor on your F.E. corrosion causes build up which can cause your brake pads to pull on the rotors and can cause your F.E. to suffer slightly. make sure your tranny is in good opperating order. Just cause it works doesn't mean it's working right. Make sure that you have no rub in your bearings and keep everything properly greased. If you have friction build then you are dragging your F.E. down mildly. all of these things will hinder your F.E. mildly but 1+1+1+1+1+1 adds up to a lot of F.E. loss.

Congrats on your purchase.
To increase mileage going to the 5-spd would be a good start. Another option is to convert over to the 6-spd manual trans that was used in the Pontiac G6's. With a good running 4-cyl some have gotten close to or just over 40 mpg on the highway and mid 30's in the city..

As for the stereo issue, there should be a constant power orange wire. One thing to check before taking the radio out is to look at the cigarette lighter. The constant power for the radio's memory and power to the lighter socket share the same fuse.

If the fuse is good and the wiring is still in question, Here is a link to the GM color codes for the radio wiring: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/GM-Wiring.pdf

Ok. Been a little bit, but got a break in the weather an dplayed with the radio. Got the wiring corrected, thanks to y'all and my Haynes manual. Now though, I have some fuses that are blown, and nothing to replace them with. They aren't the blade type or mini-bus fuses. Where they go at looks like one of the stick ones, but it'd be a male type and not a female one. Two are labeled IGN, but the car starts and runs, one islabeled RADIO, for obvious reasons, and there's one or two tohers that I can't recall right off hand. Stopped at the local GM dealership, and they can't pull any pictures up of them. Any one know what type goes in here? Thanks again!!

P.S. Coudln't find an actual "cold air intake", so I got a drop in K & N filter. Still helps though.
