I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana that came from the dealer in 2000 with the VSC 3100 security system dealer installed. I replaced the Car Battery and now the security system is completely disabled and the remote door lock/unlock that is a feature of this system does not work.
I was trying to reprogram the remote locks thru the cars computer but found the chimes were indicating I did not even have thoes options. That's when I dug thru paperwork and found the GM VSC 3100 dealer added option.
The small manual for the system says all setting are retained in memory and won't get erased when the car battery is removed.
The only thing the manual says is to press "LOCK' button on the fob rapidly to resync but this does not help.
Maybe the system has a small button cell inside to retain these setting and after 12 years it has died?
I can live without the security system and remote door locks but my main worry is the security system could get triggered and the starter kill kick in leaving me with no way to disarm it.
Can I simply disconnect the system from the wiring harness and reconnect the harness to remove the system completely?
I called the dealer to ask how much to reprogram the system and they seemed clueless to what I was even talking about.
Being a add on GM security system over a decade old not many people even know about it.
I have searched the internet but have also found very little.
If anyone has any info on this system or where to find it please let me know.
