I've been looking hard at 1997 - 2002 V8 Firebird TA's. Can someone help me with the major differences between the years? Any problems to look for (major or minor?) I hope to have one in my garage very soon!!!

Thank you for any helpful feedback!!!

Well first off the engines & tranmissions are the same from 1993 to 2002

Engine: 5.7L V8

1997 to 2002 have no differences at all other then 1997 has a weaker fuel system as 2002 has a stronger & better fuel system & you may see a little front bumper changes in design

Theres honestly no problems to look for, just take care of the car and the car will take care of you.

when/if you purchase the car i suggest you change out the oil/transmission fluid, transmission filter & air filter as well as change your spark plugs/wires

The worst thing you can do is drive a firebird thats not tuned up its very harmful to the car

In 98 the motor changed to the ls1. In 99 the oiling system was upgraded. Other than that pretty much the same.

The 1993-97 Formulas and Trans Ams have the 5.7L LT-1 engine. The 1998-2002 Formulas and Trans Ams have the 5.7L LS-1 engine. Both engines displaced 5.7L, but they are completely different animals.

The LS-1 engines are more sought after than the LT-1 engines because the LS series of engines makes more power and is more easily modified to make even more power.
