Hi everybody. I have a 2000 sunfire 2.2, 5 speed and the other week going to work it would shut off while cruising down the highway then start back up again and run as if nothing wrong. Then on my way home from work all the guages droped down to zero and my idiot lights came on. funny thing is the car kept running but it was not at 100%. I pulled over shut the car off and tried restarting and it would not start. I got it towed home on a trailer and when in my driveway on the trailer I tried starting again and it fired right up so I backed off the trailer and parked. later that day I tried to start again and it would not. I turned my key to on to listen for the fuel pump and I could not here it so I checked the relay and it was good. I jumped 12 volts back to the fuel pump from the relay terminal and the pump runs so I figured either not getting 12 volts at relay from ignition, not getting signal from computer or bad ground. Well when I turn the key on I get 12 volts at the relay. The ground at the relay is also good. When I put my volt meter on the terminal at the relay coming from the computer and hit the key I get no voltage. So I got a computer from the junk yard out of te same car 2.2, 5 speed. plugged it in and still the same problem. I checked the side of the block where the computer and starter ground and all is clean. both negative and positve terminals at battery are clean. I also took ignition switch apart and cleaned all the contacts and still nothing.
