I've got a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird LE convertible (2.0L 4 cyl) of which I have done extensive restoration. I replaced the doors and installed new window motors on both sides.
(It's a 2-door). My problem is that the passenger side power window when raised all the way does not close and seal entirely with the upper rubber gasket seal. The forward portion of the window is tight with the convertible top but the further back you go there becomes a gap between the window and the seal. When raising the window it appears that both forward and rear are
extending fully. I have also investigated the convertible top and it appears to be level. I've got the motor, regulator and cam all reinstalled and since there are
24 rivets involved I would like to avoid the need to drill out all those rivets and re-install them if I can but I will.Surprisingly the installation of the motor and regulator on the driver's side went smoothly and is perfect. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how I might be able to bring the rear portion of the passenger glass up to where it is level and seals with the forward portion?

Have you inspected all the plastic rollers that ride in the window track's? If all the rollers are good I have had good luck on other car models by cleaning and greasing the window tracks with white lithium grease. I had to remove the tracks to really clean and grease them in some cars. Just a small film of the grease is all that is needed.

Good luck with this hopefully our Sunbird expert will chime in.

Thanks Jeff for the suggestion. When I replaced the motor I removed the regulators and cleaned them up real good. While I did not
remove the tracks I did apply grease but (as you know) it's hard to do a good cleaning and lubrication job on something that is mounted inside a door. I'm considering all possibilities and most recently I am investigating the center rail seal as it does not hang down as far as the seal that is more forward. So maybe I can fix the problem by replacing that seal; don't know. I am probably going to end up drilling out rivets and reinstalling everything but hopefully someone will come forward and say something easy.

Sorry can't help on this one unless it has side tracks, there are nylon clips that hold the glass in the tracks on coupes and sedans...( One large one in the front of glass as well), easily found, on eBay..
Not sure on converts...

Thanks Doug. I think I've got it figured out. Today I removed the power window motor and regulator and re-installed them. Maybe there was a little crookedness here and a little crookedness there...but the window now comes up very smoothly and is perfectly parallel with the convertible frame. There is a very, very slight gap still but nowhere near what it was before. Then I got looking at the door seal (which is in 3 segments) and the door seal is not uniform all the way across the window. In fact it looks like the door seal was possibly smashed and let to sit for a long time (you may recall this car sat in the garage for many years). Anyway I am happy with the power window behavior and today I ordered a replacement door seal (actually ordered one for the other side too). So I think this project can be put to bed. Appreciate you jumping in here even though your an "erstwhile" Sunbirder. ;)
