hellooooo everyone, im new here so im just getting familiar with the forums and such.

A few days ago i bought a thrush glasspack from advanced auto parts for 23 dollars... i honestly have no clue about cars, since my 2000 grand am se is my first car. i have the original manual, and bought a haynes repair manual to study.

I was wondering how to install the glasspack... i know to cut the muffler / pipe and weld it or clamp it on, but do you buy clamps a little bigger than the diameters of the glasspack? please respond!!

You buy a clamp that fits whatever is on the outside of the connection, either the pipe size or the muffler size. Have you determined if the muffter slips into the pipe or the pipe slips into the muffler?

yeppers

i bought a clamp that fits over the glasspack today. the glasspack slides over the exhaust piping... how would i hang the glasspack? i bought another clamp to put on the base and then use a hanger with it, but the clamp is too small... it was a 3".

im wondering how clamping a peice of metal on top of another peice will work... i would think that the pipe would just slide off, since it would not be strongly connected to the exhaust pipe...

If the exhaust is bolted in right, there shouldn't be much movement.

Yea... just got done watching vids on youtube about exhaust clamps... would tightening with a wrench be enough? like super tight? because i saw a guy on youtube using an impact driver drill thing

A wrench is fine, just make it tight.

okay

yea... earlier today i put it on the tail pipe and it fit perfectly snug. what about the piping after i cut it back? will it be bigger or the same? because i need to know if i need extra piping

Not sure what you mean but cannt you measure it?

no :/

i meant the main part. would the exhaust pipe under the car be the same as the visible piping near the rear end?

i measured the piping that comes out of the muffler. would it be the same diameter as the piping that is before the muffler?

Not necessarily which is why you have to measure it. You can allways use a short adaptor if you have an issue

okay. so could i use a pair of calipers to measure it?

a few mins ago i checked with the calipers and it is indeed 2" thank the lord and you guys for help lol. cya folks in a bit! off to school

yayayay

so yesterday i got the exhaust cut and everything put on. i ended up just drilling a hole and using a heavy duty rubber pivoting hanger with a clamp, and put a tip on the glasspack, since it was visible. it sounds pretty good. ill hopefully upload a vid! so glad it worked! :d
