Hi everyone, I just bought a 96 Sunfire SE (2.2L, 5spd, approx 185k miles) last week and I'm trying to iron out all it's issues so I can pass emissions inspection soon.
The problem I'm having is after a good warming up, the engine will stumble and shudder a little coming out of idle. Once it gets past that "hump" it revs fine.
Along with that, at seemingly random times (although both times were after starting the engine warm and trying to leave somewhere) the engine will completely lose power (engine refuses to rev, will eventually stall out), after a couple minutes of fighting (gas pedal, restarting car) it will go back to "normal" ...
The only codes I've had it spit out during it's fits were P1441 (EVAP) and P0108 (MAP sensor). I caught the data on the P1441 code and it was thrown pretty much RIGHT before the engine died (RPM was 200-something), so I dunno if that's even due to the problem.
I just tried testing the MAP sensor using a vacuum pump and a voltmeter. I'd read somewhere that the voltage should go 5/4/3/2/1 volts at 0/5/10/15/20 inHg respectively. My voltage readings were 4.75/4.22/3.27/2.37/1.42 ... I have no idea if that's good or not.
There have also been some EGR related codes. I got an EGR from a newer vehicle at a junkyard, but it hasn't made any noticeable difference. I may try a thorough cleaning with some carb/choke cleaner.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
