hey guys , new here take it easy on me :p .. question i recently bought a 1981 pontiac lemans 4dr 267 v8 2bbl rochester carb .. it has a popping problem throught the carb. i havent checked the plugs but the wires are new , the car sat for 2-3 years ( was started reg. 3-4 times a week ) before i picked it up , at first when i drove it home there was nothing wrong no sounds from the engine nothing , now all of a sudden theres loud popping while accelerating or reving in idle i have no idea what it is but my dad says the timing maybe off from sitting ? just looking for some info .

thx Dex.

I would check the timing to start with

checked timing plugs wires cap rotor everything is good .. what next i noticed the carb was rebuilt with a rebuild kit from previous owner, looked through the haynes manual to check things like EGR ERE etc. vaccum lines are MESSED up ! could this be the problem ?

When i took the breather off to get a full view of the carb. when i rev it up it seems to be spitting mists of fuel out when the popping starts at higher rpms , cant tell you the rpms as i dont have a gauge atm .. i was told by a machine shop the cam. lopes could have gotten worn down ? the guy said its very common with these 267's

so just out of curiosity ( dont mind the spelling  ) i tore the motor down and infact i have 2 collasped lifters both mushroomed and the cam. was worn rounded out in 2 spot .. :( noooww i could use some info on how to get a 350 into my car my dad has one laying around and i need to know if it would drop in and bolt up to the stock lemans tb250 trans.? im not completely sure on info as i cant find any on this car .. if it doesnt bolt up to the trans would a tb350 go in no problem without changing the driveshaft ?

Thx. Dex.
