i have a 1996 sunfire 2.2l manual transmission. whenever the car is in motion, i push in the clutch to shift and the engine speed increases about 1500 rpm more than it should (ex: idle at 2500 inststead of 1000 rpm). the clutch isn't slipping because when i'm stopped (in 1st gear with the clutch in), the idle is fine.
After replacing the fuel filter, this problem has gotten better, but not fully. instead of a 1500 rpm increase, there is a 700-1200 rpm increase. After running the car for about 15-20 minutes, the idle seems to go back to normal but after i shut it off to go do something and start it back up, the idle goes high again.
I think it might be a dirty injection system, but i have used cleaners on it multiple times and no dice. any tips would be very helpful, since this problem has been stumping me since i bought the car in June.
