Hi, i've got a normal 2wd no traction control 05 montana. Abs has been messed up since I got the van. False activation is the worse symptom, because it's dangerous while driving to have the modulator kicking in randomly. On or off brakes, or throttle, doesn't matter. I've unhooked both front wheel sensors and sometimes the light still doesn't come on. When the light doesn't come on I can only give it 1/4 throttle, then the engine cuts out completly.

I simply want to disable abs alltogether. so the light comes on 100% of the time. The local pontiac dealer tells me there is a maxifuse in the underhood fuse box. THere isn't, and the only thing in that fuse box even remotely related (although it doesn't make sense) is a 10a tcc minifuse. I'm assuming that's traction control? Can I just unhook the harness right on the modulator, or could that cause other problems?

Any help or advice would be great,
thanks

I think I've got the same problem.
Randomly, at low speeds, I will hear/feel the brake pedal vibrating, even if I am not braking. Swaying from left to right seems to help in generating the issue, but it is not predictable. If pressing the brake pedal during the vibration, I feel the pedal fighting against my foot, thus delaying the stopping of the van. Not good.

I know from the previous owner that the ABS system has been messed with. Not sure what was the problem and what he tried to do. Could it be just the Wheel bearing assembly (since they containt the abs wheel speed sensor)?

Please post any solution - hints - tips, as I am clueless.

Also, I noticed yesterday when hard braking on gravel roads, both rear wheels will block but the front wheels wont.
Snow/ice driving in winter would make the abs kick right in, but havent noticed if rear wheels blocked or not.

do you have any lights on related to the ABS or brake system?

Like mel said get scanned and see what is wrong before you pull the fuse. Would hate to disable a safety feature , due to you may need it in the future?

Since you state the system has been messed with and I guess you cannt say what was done, a professional should look at the vehicle.
