how do i tell the difference between a trans am and a firebird?

a friend of my uncles has a firebird for sell and its pretty old but in fairly good condition on the inside as it has been sitting closed and stuff but the outside is rusty and no name badges/stickers
how can i tell the difference? it has a 5.0 btw.

What year is it?
Since it's a 5.0L I assume it was made in the 80's.
Anyhow there should be a list of RPO codes on a sticker under the hood. These will be a list of 3 digi codes consisting of letters and numbers. If the car was built as a Trans Am it should have a "WS4" code. T/A's usually had aero skirts on the sides and a scoop/bulge on the hood.
