How do you change Water Pump on a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire?

Also, does it run off the timing belt or serpentine?
Coolant is leaking, and the mechanic said that the Water Pump needs to be replaced.
 
Before you get too involved, what is the problem? It is not likely the pump is bad. How was the diagnosis made that came to this conclusion?
