How do you know (by vin) if you car is a formula or a trans am?

Hi, I was wondering how I can tell if a firebird is a firebird formula or a trans am if I have suspicion of an engine swap? The year of the car is 1994.

does the serial number on the block match the number at the base of the windshield?

Yeah but actually i found a decoder online at this website .....www.ultimatetransam.com.... where they have a vin decorder. It says that "V" means it was a formula or trans am for the 4th gen models.
