How do you put in a shut off switch for a 1992 pontiac sunbird? making

it a race car? This is a race car we bought last fall everything has to remain stock they are telling us we have to put in a kill switch. We got the steering wheel off don`t know if we are headed in the right direction. We are thinking that we have to go through the key ignition and of course the battery.

Depending on the class of racing you intend on doing I would suggest finding a rule book for the applicable modifications required for that class..
most require a (shut off) or kill switch between the battery and main cable to cut all power if the car is hit near the battery.. the ignition switch is usually left alone as it only controls the power to the harness of the car and not the battery ..
The idea is to isolate the battery from the rest of the car in case of an accident...
