How do you tell if oil seeping through coolant hoses is trans fluid or

not.? My sisters 2000 monte carlo has oil seeping through the coolant hoses. How do I find out if it is transfluid from the cooler in the radiator or oil from the engine. The resevior coolant is clean and under the radiator cap is thick sludge.
 
Tranny fluid should be reddish, motor oil should be brownish.

Has the level of either the tranny or motor oil dropped? Do the dipsticks of the tranny or engine show any traces of coolant?

Suggest to look into this. While oil in the coolant is not a good sign, keep in mind that the coolant system is pressurized and coolant in either of the oils can wreak havoc.
