How much could I get for my '78 firebird?

I have a '78 automatic firebird. It only has 30K original miles on it, with minor surface rust and a few small scratches. It's been sitting in my parents garage for the last couple of years, with intentions of fixing it up, but I just haven't found the time. My uncle sold it to me for $1500 because the kickshift on the gear shift needed fixed.

Other than that, all ll it needs is a new battery, tires, filters, and any belts or other material that would've worn out over time. I'm estimating it to cost about $1500 to fix up, and recently someone offered $3000.

What I'm asking is, is the three grand worth it, or how much do you guys think that I could get if I actually invested the time and money and fixed it up?

Cars that old are difficult to appraise - not much of a market to compare against. The condition and collectability of the car will make up the majority of its value. While plain Firebirds aren't really highly sought after, is there anything special about the car that would raise its value - is it a Formula, a TransAm, or some other limited edition like BlueBird or RedBird?

Unless the car has significant value to you, suggest to consider taking the $3K as is, and run.
On the other hand, if you need a car - $1500 purchase plus $1500 in parts wouldn't be bad at all for a car with that few miles on it, that should run to well over 100,000 miles. Not to mention the uniqueness - not everyone has seen a car of that vintage - would certainly be noticed around town.
