firebird cost? I have a '92 firebird, the last year of this body type, and I'd like to paint it glossy black. I have no idea how much this would cost, and no idea where I could take it to get it done. If an exact figure is impossible, an estimate is ok. Any kind of price range would be helpful :)

It all depends - how much body work is involved, quality of the work, clear-coat, etc.

For glossy black, the body work needs to be perfect - imperfections really stand out.

Had my black pickup redone about 5 years ago - body work required for the rusted rear fenderwells and minor other filler work needed. Came out to $1900.

If you can do body work, and get all the trim taken off or masked so it's ready to shoot - could really help to lower costs.

Don't know if the chain shops like Earl Schieb are still in business or what their quality is like, but that may be an alternative if you're not a perfectionist.

Have seen some pretty respectable jobs done with spray cans - it all depends on what you're after.

The issue with older cars is Most shops are "production" shops they make their money by getting cars in and out fast ..
they usually wont want to do an older car due to the work invaulved, so they will quote a rediculous price and hope you go away or they will make a killing on the Job ..
most will give you an estemate some free of charge but ask first, there are also restoration shops that specialize in doing older cars but again you get what you are paying for and it will be an expensive project to do most older cars just because the car has been on the road and exposed to the elements and parking lots and other things that cause damage that will need to be repaired before it can be painted ..
the difference between just painting it and doing a decent Job that will survive more than a couple years is going to be a $750.00 Earl Schibe job and a pro job done correctly that can run into the Thousands easily
I think I would start by calling around and seeing if there are any shops in your area that would take on a Job Like this and get some estemates ..
also if the car is not black now a color change will cost even more to do as the jambs and other parts will need to be painted to match (more cost)
and in 30+ years of painting and doing body work I have yet to see a spray can Job that was any good at all!!!
Good Luck!
