I was thinking of buying a 1985 pontiac fiero, great looking car. Just wondering how much would it cost to replace or rebuild the engine and get it running in good standing again?
we have a number of people here who can answer your question but they are not signed in at the moment. Check back later today or in the evening. thanks.

I also have a 1985 2m4 and I am very in love with that little tech four engine. The iron duke is a dog and a beast at the same time. You are going to have a little fun finding one but not too bad just make sure it's for a fiero. The iron duke was a whore engine and went in about every four cylinder application at the time. and they all vary slightly so you need to make sure it was the correct engine for your car. If you have a good amount of engine experience then you can get a rebuild kit for the car and just rebuild the engine. But if you want to buy a remanufactured engine you can get one of those for around a grand or so depending on the who what and what they used's. if they are selling you a reman for four hundred bucks be leary.
Personally, I'd take some time to look into the engine on that particular car and see if it even needs to be rebuilt in the first place. I have over 200K on mine and the master cylinder went out but the engine is still a champ. So you may not even need to do all that. just peak at it give it a full tune up make sure you flush everything and bleed all your lines and if you need a new water pump get that kind of stuff taken care of before you drive the car and as long as everything looks good you should be about set to go.
