How to change the front cv shaft on my 2006 pontiac torrent

Hi all
Just rotated the tires and noticed grease on my front passenger tire. After further inspection it looks like the rubber boot on my cv joint shaft has a crack in it. Must have been when I replaced the hub assembly this past winter. What is the best and easiest was to remove the shaft. I researched the Internet and people advise that I change the whole shaft when a boot is cracked. Please let me know the step by step.

why dont you just replace the boot, I believe they make split boots so you dont have to pull the shaft. Look at autozone, napa, advanceauto, etc.
