how to replace the M.A.F. sensor on a 1999 pontiac sunfire?

i had just bought a 1999 pontiac sunfire when i looked under the hood the intake had been modified. not cold air. i think the old owners messed with it and broke the sensor? how do i know if its broken? the check engine light is on and the car has a bad idle. seems to randomly rev up every few seconds. and will this take the check engine light off?

Thke it to autozone and have it scanned. This will tell you what the problem is. The light will need to be reset.
