I bought a used Grand Am (2003) yesterday and had the oil changed today. But, the light won't go off.
I have downloaded the manual but it is not very specific in the details as to how to do it.
It says to reset it from the fuse block but doesn't show where the reset button is.
I've also read that you can:
Turn on the car (do not start)
Pump the brakes 3 times
Turn off the car, then crank it up.
Light should be off then.

Help anyone?

Yeah the alternate method with the gas pedal is usually for aftermarket radios and such on GM.

The "reset" button is on the driver side. Open the driver side door. Notice the portion of the dash that would touch the door should have some type of finger hole. Pull that open and see fuses and also a red "reset" button. You have to hold it for a few seconds with the car off. It will flash and that should be it.

PS there are fuses located in that same end panel on the passenger side too.

Thank you for the fast reply! I tried to get the cover off, maybe I didn't pull hard enough as I was afraid of breaking it. I'll try again. Thanks! :D

You're welcome.

Sorry but you do need to yank pretty hard. It is held in with some metal clips- if they break, they are cheap (get the at O'reillys, Autozone, Napa, ect.) If the plastic part were to break too, you could go to a junk yard and pull one off for cheap. I don't know where you live but I am sure you would have quite a selection.

Anyway, I got off on a tangent - you do need to pull hard, maybe use a screwdriver as a lever. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. :)

I followed the steps and it didn't change anything. :(

Now I've discovered the horn doesn't work when pressed BUT it does chirp when I lock the doors as I'm leaving the vehicle. Maybe a fuse problem?

are these the steps you followed to reset the oil light?
1. With the ignition key in ON (a short time after
turning off the engine), press the RESET button
located in the driver’s side instrument panel
fuse block. See “Instrument Panel Fuse Block”
under Fuses and Circuit Breakers on page 5-81.
2. When the CHANGE OIL light starts to flash, press
and hold the RESET button again.
The reset is complete when you hear the chimes and
the CHANGE OIL light goes out.

I appologize for the questions but you are 100% certain it is the change oil light and not some other function?

Yes. It says "Change oil". I had it changed yesterday and can't get the light to go off.

Yes. I held the reset button for a full minute and the light never flashed.

Wonderful! let us know if we can help out in the future.
