Hi folks,

I have a 2003 pontiac sunfire with 129000 miles. There's a strange humming sound coming from the back wheels.

This sound will be going from when the car is on until it is off; when it first started, it would be from being on until about 10 minutes when the noise stopped. Now it will usually persist all the time, although that's not exactly accurate as I heard it go away today. It will go away after a long while.

Usually it will be coming from both wheel-areas (it's not the wheels themselves but right above or behind them) although yesterday I heard it happen on only the right one after a short drive.

I had fish tailed in broad daylight so I've assumed I messed something up, as I doubt this steel Sea Biscuit could handle such a maneuver.

Thanks

Do you hear the noise when the car is not moving?

Yea I hear the noise when not moving most of the time now, it'll take a while to go away although usually the noise will altogether disappear after a long driving session.

My guess is brake fluid, bearings, or fuel pump

If you hear the noise when the vehicle is not moving it has nothing to do with brakes or bearings. In all probability it is the fuel pump.

Oh dear, I was afraid of that. Thank you for the assist!

Im having the same problem with my 2003 but the humming noise is coming from the front driver side and it only happens when i get up to 60 kilometers/hr, once i hit 80 kilometers/hr its not as loud. But once i let off the gas pedal it gets really loud.

assuming you hear the noise when your foot is not on the brake pedal I would suspect wheel bearing or CV joint.
