I changed the ignition switch in my 99 Pontiac Grand Am, now the security light is on. The car is

operable.? How can I get the light off. I have tried taking the battery cables off and then putting them back on.
 
Your ignition switch is no longer see correctly by the security module. This would be a locksmith fix, the dealer costs way too much.
 
You may have left off a ground wire, get an OBD-ll scanner and see what turn up, the scanner can also turn off the light on some cars. Other wise you may need to go to the dealership or a lock smith to solve this one. Good Luck and God Bless
 
At Advance Auto parts they have diagnostics you can use for free. It may help tell what is wrong
