i got a 93 firebird and i wanna change the v6 engine to a v8. Which is cheaper a v8 trans am or...

...engine mods what im really asking is if im asking for too much trouble by looking to switch the 3.4L v6 engine to a v8. I have been told that I should just buy a newer trans am model. I spent 3,500 on the firebird. I realize i must have gotten ripped off but im new this stuff and am trying to learn. Even if i do go about keeping the firebird, how do i even convert the car over. I will need the v8 and transmission to match right? What type of transmission. And for that matter what else do i need? Im dying here. I should proble just get to lookin for that trans am huh? dang.

It depends if you want to keep your 1993, it can be done,it will cost alot to make these changes, many other items such as motor mounts, modification, suspension will have to be modified for extra weight,im guessing new custom drive shaft, possible gear ratio change, what im saying is if you want a (race car) start with a car designed for that purpose. Anything is possibe with knowledge and money. My advise, buy a fast production car and keep your 93 for rainy days. good luck !!!

Honestly, it will be cheaper to sell the car and buy a V8 equipped one. A friend of mine was going to do the exact same thing, and by the time we added all of the parts up (not to mention the work involved to swap motors), it would have been roughly $1000 cheaper (and less hassle) to buy a V8 equipped car.

It is possible to keep the motor that you have and add a supercharger, but it depends on how much time and money you would want to spend on building the motor to safely accept boost.

You can find a decent condition LT1 equipped F-body pretty cheap these days. Even the LS1 equipped cars have came down in price.
