i have a 1984 firebird, when i give it gas the engine chokes down, what

would cause this? when i give the car gas it chokes down, if it is idiling it is fine, when im driving it it can reach about 50 mph then it starts to choke down and i have to let off the gas, could it be a carburater problem or what?

Carb is more then likely the problem. Did you own it before it did any of this? Is it at 50 MPH or is it just the RPM Range that you are at when you're doing 50 (so in other words, is 1st gear at the same RPM bogging too)?

Sounds like it's running super rich when you're giving it gas.
