I have a 1987 Pontiac Firebird and the headlights won't go up! Someone help!?

On my 1987 Firebird, they have the hide-a-way headlights where when you shut them off the fold down and when you turn them on they pick up... only now when you turn them on the motors that lift/lower them just run and run and run... they don't do anything. The motors run when you connect the battery too. I need headlights to drive at night! Some one must know what to do!

I had a similar problem once with an old Celica.. Mine had some manual knobs to raise the headlights under the hood behind each light.

I had the same issue. Found out there is a separate fuse on the firewall.

If the motors are running the internal gears, which are plastic, must be stripped. They sell the replacement gears on ebay or other web sites. I had to change mine and you hvae to take the motors out and take them apart to do it.
