I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am?

The complete steering system (wheel and column) move up and down, left and right. It still turns but the steering wheel moves all over. Is this something that has to be replaced in whole or is there a pin or something I can purchase to fix the problem?

What pedal said. Then there are 4 bolts in the steering column that hold the joint that allows the tilt to work. While its a pain take them out one at a time and put lock tight on them. Made a lot of money buying cars with the same symptoms and doing that.

look under the dash for the mounting points for the steering column. see if they are lose and check for the rubber seal that I believe should be there.
