I Have A 1999 Pontiac Firebird (v6) With A Back Pressure Problem?

The Catalytic Converter Was Rattling Really Loud And I Asked My Friend What To Do. He Told Me To Beat It With A Hammer And W.o.t. The Engine To Blow All Of The Deposits Out Of The Tail Pipe. So I Did. The Rattling Stopped But As Soon As I Got On It Going Home I Noticed A Decrease In Power And Had To Actually Let Off The Gas For The Tranny To Shift From 2nd To 3rd! Im Thinking My Muffler Is Clogged.... I Hope Someone Knows How I Could Fix This Problem Without Replacing The Cat Or Muffler. Thanks!!!!!

sounds like you you cat is shot and you would have to remove the whole system to remove what might be blocking the muffler. There is no way of knowing if it will come off without requiring cutting or heat which might cause further damage.
