I have a 1999 Pontiac grand am and recently it has locked up n me and now is

making a really loud whining noi? whining noise in the back of the car. Now that I think of it, it would also have a fluttering sound when i would try to start it. It will turn on and drive about 100 feet and stall out. Could this be the fuel pump???

Yes

Sounds like the fuel pump, since that's the only thing in the rear of the car that would make any sound. It may have come detached. A mechanic could diagnose the issue based just on that sound if you take it by a garage.
