I know the fuel pump is in the gas tank, but my question is, would it be ok to mount the new fuel pump outside of the gas tank to make the job easier. I know somebody that knows how to connect everything that way, or is in the gas tank the only way to do it. It is an electric fuel pump. My car is a 2001 Pontiac
Grand Am 2.4

they have universal out of tank fuel pump fairly easy to install wiring is the tick there about 100.oo

you have to get an aftermarket fuel pump. you need a feed and return hose into the tank and you need an aftermarket fuel pressure gague and allnew hose from the tank to the fuel railthe new fuel pump will need to be re-wired

I did a fuel pump in a GA a month ago, and from my experience, the in tank pump and float was a far easier way to go.

It cost about $500 for the pump, and of course my time dropping the tank and replacing it. I also broke one strap for $30.

Why do fuel pumps only go when the tank is FULL? :D
