wouldnt start at all, why? The push rods are fine, it now has gas in the oil and had gas in one of the cylinders. Thinking maybe the camshaft?

the trani slipping and not starting are probably unrelated. Did you check if you have electricity going to the plugs? It sounds like you have an ignition problem and are flooding the engine with gas. What do you mean your push rods are fine? You pulled the valve covers? Why would you jump to the camshaft? Did you perform a compression test? You observed the rockers not moving while cranking the engine?
