I have a '95 pontiac sunfire and my car now makes a whistling noise when I start it up & it overheats now

HELP Now my car just started doing this this week and I don't know why. The whistling noise it makes sounds like a hot kettle on a stove & when I put antifreeze in my car, it seems like it all disappears into the engine because I filled up my cars engine coolant compartment and in 2 days it was empty, WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH MY CAR?

those kinda car are not good. suck so much... repair suck.. horse power suck... long range in trying to sell it off suck!... time get a honda or import.... they last longer and people think your smart when you drive it.... so stop fixing it and get a new go-kat.. k

this is not enought information to really give you a good answer. im very use to working on caviliers which has the exact same 2.2 engine that is in the sunfire because both or made by general motors. but anyway. this could be the water pump and thermostat is defective. watch if the water flows out the over flow and how the temp gadge acts cause it could be the fan or the temp sensor. this is the only answer i can give you with out more detail information.

To the best what I know it sounds like a bad and leaking water pump. You really should have a mechanic check it out.

My first instinct from what you are describing is a bad headgasket. Very common on the 2.2 liter. If its any consolation its a fairly easy job on these engines compared to many others.

x2 ^ my 96 now have 172,000 on it and runs good. Changed the gasket and got the heads done.
