I have a Pontiac Montana and it over heated on me. Thinking thermostat.

How do i fix that in my vehicle? My dad said there could be other things, like the transmission cooling line. Something about the radiator or head gasket. But can you help me fix it myself please? I'm a girl, 30, and usually do well with directions. Thank you.

You may want to look for a Chilton or similar repair manual at a large book store or maybe a library. You have to drain all the coolant from the vehicle into a pan and then replace the thermostat and pour the coolant back in. The problem though could be something else like a slow leak in the radiator, or hose, or a gasket. Do you normally keep an eye on your coolant level when the vehicle is cold?
