I have a slow coolant leak in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and do not have money right now for an expensive...

...repair. About 2000 miles ago the low coolant light in my car came on, It was time for an oil change so I took it in the next morning (to the dealer) and told them the light was on. After looking at it they said it was just a hair low and that they didn't see a leak, they topped it off and said they didn't think it was anything to worry about. Today the light came on again and I stopped at a Monro Muffler store and asked if they could add coolant - they did, but said there is obviously a slow leak somewhere - nothing is showing underneath, but I realize that it's not normal. with the holidays coming i'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and if I continue to add coolant if it needs it, if it could wait 6 weeks or so to determine the cause of the leak. It could be something small like a hose, I realize, but fear it's something quite expensive - I have no money right now and I really don't know of a garage that offers a payment plan. Anyone else experienced this?

If the leak is not showing underneath the car, it may be leaking internally. Pull out your oil dipstick and check to see if the oil looks snotty or foamy. If it does, you have coolant leaking into your engine which is a very bad sign. This would mean that your cylinder head is warped or cracked. And a much costlier repair than just a leaky hose or radiator. If your oil is not foamy, you most likely do have a slow leak on the outside. Do you smell a sweet smell? Almost like maple syrup? That is what antifreeze smells like. You can try putting some bars leak in the radiator and let it run for a while. Make sure your heater is turned off when you do this so it does not clog your heater core. Good luck. Hope this helps you out.

Buy some Antifreeze and keep adding till you can get it fixed. That is assuming that your oil is good.
