• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... I am assisting a friends widow to catalogue an estate of 30 cars that includes a Pontiac sedan. I think it is late 193? or early 194? model but I dont know what indicators to look for to make a correct assesment of model.
It has side valve 6 cyl engine, front doors hinge at the front but rear doors hinge at rear.
If I can post pic in the thread let me know. I am usually on VCCA Chatter page where can put pics up.
Any assistance is appreciated.

This may help: ( 30's and 40's pics)

http://www.classicpontiacs.com/index.html

Vin Locations:

1930-1934: Right side of rear crossmember or under left front fender

1935: On a plate or right side of frame center of right front wheel.

1936-1938: on top of frame ahead of steering gear.

1939-1940: On front crossmember behind radiator

1941-1942: on left side of dash.

1946-1948: On left side of firewall under hood.

1949-1952: Tag on left front door post

I thank you for the information. At this stage it looks like being a 40 silver streak but will go looking for numbers in the next couple of days.

What format is the id numbers and will they help dechipher the model?

I had a look for the id this morning, I found where the tags were (high on left of the engine side of the firewall) which puts it in the 46 48 era. Then looking at the pics you linked to the front looks like the grey 46 2 door though the the blue 4 door above it has rear doors front hinged where the 1 I am looking at they are rear hinged (suicide) though the grille is partly hidden it does look close.

The car is positioned so that I cant get under to scrape the chassis for a number at this stage and the battery box on 1 left side hides the top of the rail with the inner fender hiding the right hand rail ahead of the steering box.

At this stage I think I will call it a 46? and the purchaser can sort the identification from there.

When this car comes on the market I will advise this forum and several other places / media.

Thank you for your assistance
Tony
