I now have a knock in my 2.8.... should I just have the top end rebuilt? Someone said it could be from too much back pressure but I'm not sure. And I still need help on my oil pressure guage problem.

You probably have worn bearings causing the knock. Not sure how many miles the engine has on it, But 5W30 is too thin for a high mileage engine. You could toss in some STP oil treatment or go to a thicker oil like 20W50 which would quit the knock and buy you a month or so, But the engine needs a rebuild. I looked at your oil pressure thread and the "bouncing pressure" could be due to the oil pump going bad. If that is the case, it would kill you bearings.

I appreciate the help. Ill be looking into the oil pump and going thicker. I plan on doing the 3800sc swap depending on how much the rebuild wil cost.

If you really want to get more power and not spend a lot of money, Then do a 3.4L swap. The 3.4L from a 1993-1995 Camaro/Firebird is a direct drop in. Just toss on the Fiero intake and ignition system and you will have 160hp. You can usually find a 3.4L with decent mileage for under $300.

Step by step instructions are here: http://fiero34swap.eleventenths.org/
With a decent turbo you can get 250-270hp with no problem.

A rebuild kit for a 2.8L runs around $800.

Another decent swap is the mid 80's Cadillac 4.9L V-8. It bolts right up to the stock trans, Gives you 200hp and gobs of low end torque. You can find a few for $500.

I was thinking about the 3.4 swap. but i think im gonna go all out with the 3800 series 2 supercharged swap.
