was kinda thinking there is probably a short to, ill check fuses and i know the dimmer is up lol
 
Check or replace fuses., $20 tops. Don't take it in for something so little or when you get your car back you will have way more problems.

usually when you turn on the lights of a car the dashboard goes dim, there is a lever or knob that adjusts the brightness of the dashboard, far left it is dark far right the dome light comes on.. I dont know if there is one on the pontiac but look for it

It cant be a fuse because they would never be on, and would just be dark the whole time
 
sounds like you have a short somewhere. Follow your wires and see if you have any wires touching or crossing anywhere. I know its a pain but electrical problems are never simple
 
Just another thing to check, If it has a non-stock radio pull it out and look for the gray wire in the harness of the car side. This is the dimmer wire to the radio display. Many just leave it hang and it can short to metal under the dash causing the lights to not illuminate.
