Things to consider? Hello, I am considering buying a 1982 Pontiac Firebird. The seller says that the car is in pretty good condition, she says that it should start up and run after the battery had been replaced.

I'm not a big "car guy" but I'm trying to learn more about automotive work, and plan on working on this car as a hobby. My question is: What should I look for and be aware of when buying a used car like this?

The seller says that the 1982 Firebird may require a special battery, does anyone know if this is true?

She also says that due to the type of engine in the car it may need to be sprayed with ether in order to start up - I haven't heard this before in reqards to this car.

I'm open to any advice or tips regarding this car and how I should proceed, thanks in advance.

Let her buy the battery and if it starts fine otherwise there is something else wrong. There is no special battery. If the car is in a proper state of tune and has nothing wrong with it, it will not require ether to start. Unless she can demonstrate it has a running engine, move on to another car.
