...GT? Okay so I had an alpine deck in my old car and the car got totalled. i took the alpine deck out of there n kept it to put in my new car. the guys at best buy were quoting over $200 in labor because supposedly everything is wired through the stereo. my question is, is it really THAT THAT much labor? the parts i don't mind but geez, thats a whole lot of money just for instalation esp. since the deck was about $200 in price....i don't think the installation is more than the deck but if any tech ppl out there can help me out i'd appreciate it.

Yep, there is a bypass harness that may need to be ran to bypass the factory amplifier. there is a possibility that this may not be necessary, but the majority of the time, in this vehicle, its necessary. Sorry. Its mostly parts though. You need a Kit, antenna adapter, long bypass harness, and the labor to run all of that. if you went to like a bestbuy or Circuit, that would be $75 in parts, $50 for the radio install, $10 test fee for used product, Tax and the rest in labor for bypassing the amp. $200 cound be a good estimate. This is going to be the same for no matter what deck you end up getting, unfortunately. but It could be worse. You could have individual amps on each speaker and have to bypass or replace all of the speakers too!

I think that this is a rip off dude.
It's really not hard to install a alpine deck in a car.
You can do it yourself, Buy the Harness at best buy and the dash kit and you are ready to go. I you feel you can't do it try looking for another place that is cheaper than best buy.

Sorry.... but you don't have a clue... if the car has intregal systems run into the radio you can't just hack into the harness any more and expect everything to work ..and it's not just slap a harness into the works anymore either, if you try that with some of the newer cars you will do serious damage and possibly disable crutial systems on the car .
some cars now days have sub systems that are run through the radio "buss"
(computer harness) and control things like the chimes, lights, onstar systems, cluster/gauges and security systems and disconnecting this system can disable any or all of them and even make the car not run... if they want that much and said they need an adaptor module for it there is a reason for it I would at least have them explain what is required to do it ...
to make sure you arent going to damage anything, they are trying to make it harder to do aftermarket installs on late model cars by integrating everything into a computer system that links everything together like this ...
