I have a 99 Grand Am GT and just recently noticed that the floor on the driver side, under driver seat, and in back are completely water soaked. It's been raining for about a week, so can only assume a problem with the undercarriage. I've looked under the car and don't notice any rust or blatant cracks. Has anyone else experienced similiar problem? Thanks...

I have the same problem with my 93 as well as many others I've talked to. Since this is such a widespread problem you'd think there would be answers........... I haven't found one yet.

just for a cheaper way and to getyour head outta your butt ..... might wanna check the weather stripping

that was the first & most obvious thing to look at - not the problem. go back to the drawing board, junior.

Check the cowling (the area just underneath the windshield) and see if there's any holes, cracks, rust, etc. Several older cars had a problem with this area not staying sealed and water would run down to the inside of the car under the carpeting, so it wasn't visible, but would still get wet. Something to check, anyway.

I too have the problem as of recently. I have a 99 Grand Am SE and the front driver's side floor was soaked 3 weeks ago. The water was actually standing! I am taking it to Pontiac this week to have it check out. I'll report the findings. Thanks!

have you considered the heater coil? i had a cavalier with the exact same problem. The fittings are made of plastic

If Your Cowling Is Plugged With Fir Needles, Leaves Etc... It Will Run Over Into The Inside Of The Car When It Rains

Floor Soaked

Hi, I had the same problem but at the passanger side, the problem was with the windshield gasket ( under the wiper ), the black gasket was leaked so the water will run down directly to the interior of the car, the solution I found was sealing with silicone and the problem is gone.
Good luck!!

I've got a 93 grand am and expeirienced the same problem. I jacked up the car and used clear silicone in a caulking gun , underneath the drivers side, while on your back looking up caulk any seems or gaps that you see.

Interior Floor Board Soaked...

I had a 93 with this problem. Took it to a dealer that I actually trust and she found that where the firewall meets chassis of the car, the welding seams had begun to deterioate with age. They welded the seams back up and recarpeted the car and never had the issue again.

I read some place that it could be leaking around the door pillar where the rubber for the power window wires go into the car. Also the aluminum heater core makes condensation and this can leak out at the bottom on right side passenger where the plastic cowling meets the floor I think there must be some internal drain opening but probably it gets clogged over time, could also be around windshield and firewall.

I had this problem with my 96. I found about a 9in. section of seam in the cowling area where the firewall meets the body that was missing sealant/putty so I patched it up and there's no more leaks, floor is dry,NO MORE SMELL. You'll have to remove your wipers and the plastic grille over the cowl and check around in there with a flashlight.

Could be the unibody pinch weld. Sealing it with silicone should be a good fix.

Hi there, this is a fix for the passenger side floor getting wet, im not sure about a driver side solution but on the passenger side what happens is the seal around the shrouding where the whipers attach goes and then water drips right into the fresh air intake and then onto your floor, however before the floor it drips onto your blower motor and your car's BCM which can cause some major problems, believe me.

Anyways the fix is easy.

the part was about $9 at the dealership, its just a foam seal with adhesive backing, just remove the whipers, remove the plastic shroud and everything is right there, took me about 90 minutes and no more water even running the hose directly on it for 20 minutes.
