New member here, usually pretty mechanically savvy (was a mechanic in the army) however not sure what's going on lately with the instrument panel in my 04 Grand Am.

Strange thing happens every once in a while where my instrument panel seemingly doesn't get any power. The gas gauge, tach, speedometer, and temp are all at 0, and my odometer doesn't have any numbers displaying.

I'm unsure if the lights still work as I have auto lights and haven't really caught it at night time yet. However, the stereo (aftermarket) still operates just fine and the car drives without issue when it does happen. I can almost guarantee it's not a stereo wiring issue as it was in there for 2 years without any issue before.

I would suspect a short somewhere however unsure of really where to begin.

It could be the cluster circuit board try looking for any online diagnostics

Airsrykr,

I just reported a similar problem in my '99 Grand Am GT. In my case, when the cluster loses power, the HVAC blower and power windows also become inop. Did you encounter that as well?

Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

G check your battery connections. My Buick did the same thing and it was a loose cable. Car ran fine but lost all power to the dash.
