I’m getting ready to put the motor back into my 1996 Firebird V6.
I have rebuilt the motor in my spare time over the last 2 years.
This is my 1st overhaul I kept everything stock.
I was wondering if its possible to prime the motor with the starter before putting the motor back in the car?
…and if anyone has done this?
And what should oil pressure be at starter RPM?
Seems like it might be good to do, prior to installation?
Thanks.

You should be able to get an oil pressure reading of maybe 30 psi.

Installed Oil Pressure Gage and turned engine with Starter tonight. All went very well! Pressure got up to 60 pounds. Thanks for all your feedback. Will continue to work toward engine install & start-up. Thanks again!:)

glad to hear, let us know how it goes, remember to let it run for about 1/2 an hour at various engine speeds to breakin the camshaft, or perhaps that is dated if you are using a roller, either case it wont hurt
