Here's what happened. i got off work tonight and as i was driving the gas light came on, so i immediately pulled over to the nearest gas station, filled up. i got back in the car. the car would crank up but not stay on. i notice that that the security light was blinking while i had the key in on position. i tried multiple times to start it and keep it going but it just wouldnt. could it be the security system not letting me take off or is it the pump thats not working all of a sudden? when i turn the key on i do here a humming which i'm guesing is the fuel pump. how long do i have to wait for the bypass system to restart. but any ideas as to what i need to do?

Sounds like tha passlock sensor is going bad , probably coincidential that you were nearly out of fuel .. the passlock sensor includes the key, lock cylinder and a module that controls it all..
Not a user friendly system probably best looked at by a service tech or dealer..
