Is the ecu from a 1994 firebird the same as an ECU from a 1997 camaro? Could they be traded for one

another? I want to put a 5-speed transmission in my 1997 V6 camaro, its an automatic. My friends 1994 V6 firebird's heater core and radiator just went out, and he is just going to junk it. So I am going to take the 5-speed from his Firebird and put it in my car (my tranny is having some issues, so why not make it a 5-speed). I need to know if i need to buy a new ECU for my car (since its going from a automatic tranny to a manual) or if i can just take his.

You won't be able to use his. Programming from the 94 to 97 are completely different. 94 PCM's use a removeable PROM chip whereas the 96-up(OBD II) PCM's must be flashed. There are many tuners out there that can take care off this for you for a fee. Depending on where you are located there may actually be someone close to you that has the software to do this for you. If not you can contact these guys. Best price and great rep.
