So I have a 05 Sunfire in my hands. It is fully stock. With a 2.2l ecotec engine. I want to make it a little faster and more exciting to drive, so I'm thinking, is there a bigger engine that would fit in my little car? Also will it need a lot of modification?

Thank you, Fibarra697

current ecotec engines go up to 2.4l. The easiest thing for you to do is a cold air intake and a cat back exhaust system.

Thanks, Ill consider the 2.4l. But chances are I'll just get the intake and exhaust system.

Thanks again.

If you want more power, you might want to add a turbo and intercooler. I think it was the Cobalt that came out with a turbo charged 2.0L ecotec from the factory rated at 260 hp and 260 ft/lb torque. From what I've read these engines are capable of 400+ horsepower.

Put a colbalt turbo engine in it. ;)

upgrade trans fluid, get smaller wheels, switch to synthetic oil, find the turbo that fits in your car, upgrade your valve timing for power instead of fuel savings, custom tailpipe and cat, clean throttle body,

About Cobalt Engine in Sunfire

I am in the middle of this conversion and I can tell you it is NOT for the weak at heart. Be prepared to modify a lot of stuff and collect the complete wiring harness from junk yards and also you should be good at welding because the engine cradle is completely different. Other than that if you are comfortable reading wiring diagrams and can weld.. (when I say you can weld I mean with a wire welder and be good enough that you are willing to bet your life on it holding because at over 100mph if it lets go, you are going to flip the car) then go for it. The only other thing you need to figure out is the ABS, launch control, axle modification and possible dashboard modification for the new instrument cluster...
