Hello first post. I just recently done a valve/timing job in my honda and decided to tackle my brothers Sunfire. I just took off the valve cover to see whats going on and his timing chain is pretty loose, looks like it jumped.
and i was looking to see how i actually get to the timing chains and crank and it looked like a solid piece of aluminum all around the gears and chains. im pretty sure i have to take the motor mount and lots of parts off to get to the chains, but is there any guide online to help me out from there?
SYMPTOMS:
before the car stalled. it was having problems with acceleration. the rpms would go crazy and it would take a while for the car to get up to speed, and my bro said it was going through a ton of oil. then he said he was on the highway when it quit getting gas and sounded bad like metal on metal.
MY DIAGNOSIS:
think it just sucked up a bunch of dirt (because he moved out in the sticks ) and its highly likely that some sensors are coated with crap so there could be vacuum and intake problems. plus ethanol didnt help any. and he never maintained the thing.
as for the initial stall, im most positive some valves are bent, and possibly rods are bent. ill have get this thing out of the field to check everything.
but anyway sorry for the novel. the main thing i need is a guide or tips.
on timing.
